Homily #101104 (13min) Play – In today’s Gospel Our Lord gives us the parables of the Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin where if one is lost many are left behind and great effort is exerted to find the one. We should realize then the personal concern that Jesus has for each one of us and we should also have this concern then for our neighbors. Father further points out the great evil of sin which leads souls astray and how preaching and praying for others is so important to the salvation of souls, to lead them to the sacraments.

Dominic preaches on the need to desire sanctity in order to get to heaven and this is why we honor all the saints on this Solemnity of All Saints, to spur our desire. This desire must extend beyond our first fervor of a moment of conversion, and be fostered until the day we depart from this life. We must have purity of heart to achieve peace with God and peace among men in the likeness of Mary Immaculate. To get this long-lasting desire we must pray for it.

Recording Failed- In today’s Gospel Our Lord brings salvation to Zacheus of Jericho. Fr. Bonaventure preaches on how Jericho is a symbol of sinfulness that has been conquered by Christ’s presence. This place was one of the most ancient cities in the world and was the lowest place below sea level that is inhabited by man and so is a symbol of Hell. The citizens were devotees of the lunar deities and practiced the associated vices, ones that would cause people to loose their mind, becoming literally lunatics. He connects this with the culture of modern decadent cities using Chapter 2 of the Book of Wisdom and how Christ is needed just as before for bringing the Kingdom of God to these bastions of Satan.

Homily #101029 (08min) Play – Our Lord uses the example of the Ox and the Ass in today’s Gospel in reference to whether he should heal a man with dropsy on the Sabbath. He asks, who among you has an ox or ass which if stuck in a cistern would not try to rescue it? Fr. Bonaventure associates the Ox with the Jews who were burdened with the Law of Moses and the Ass to the Gentiles who were rendered unintelligent through sin. Jesus is the saving Sabbath who through the sacrifice of his own Body and Blood saves us from the cistern of sin.

Homily #101017 (19min) Play – Our Lord gives us the parable in today’s Gospel of the unjust judge who cares nothing about God nor man, but after being pestered enough by the woman seeking justice he gives her request. Fr. Angelo preaches on the need to follow this woman’s example to pester God who is, instead, a just Judge, and so will all the more give us all that is good. Not only is it good to keep pestering good but Jesus give us a command to do so. Homily #101010 (39min) Play – The Gospel of today has the cleansing of the ten lepers and how only one came back to give thanks, a Samaritan, a stranger. Father points out that this event takes place in Samaria on the way from Philippi, famous for its temple to the Pagan god Pan which was considered to be the gates to the netherworld. The form of worship of this God was so outrageous that you could really call it pan-demonium. But it is also where Jesus gives the keys of the kingdom of God to Peter (Mat 16:18) against which these gates of hell will not prevail. He connects these biblical events with modern forms of pandemonium including rock music, materialistic culture, sexual immorality, political acquiescence to evil, public blasphemy, replacing Jesus the true savior with human gods. We have been forgiven by Christ, cleansed from the leprosy of sin. Let us not be ungrateful like the other nine lepers but be like that one stranger who returns to give thanks to Christ our Savior. Let us not only do this as individuals but as a people and as whole nations, coming back to the Church that Jesus built on the rock of Peter.
