Ave Maria! Mike Casey of RI National Organization for Marriage gives a rundown of the state of marriage in the US and particularly in the smallest state of the union, Rhode Island, and compares this to what happened in New York. He mentions how 31 times people voted directly on this issue across the nation and every time voted against same sex marriage, how it is being pushed on children at school which is taking the place of parents and even by the medical profession in doctor offices, how protocol was thrown out the window in the NY push for gay marriage, how there is an implied threat to sue if the bill does not get passed and so will win it through the courts, how gay pride day marches are pornographic and even if they were heterosexual should be banned, and how this all adds up to a long slow slide toward the demise of the building block of society, marriage and family. Ave Maria! Cardinal Burke gave the homily at the first Mass of the 2011 Canon Law Conference in La Crosse, WI on the feast of St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She was a Jew and a renowned philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Carmelite nun until she was deported by the Germans to Auschwitz, where she was killed in the gas chambers. She entered Carmel in 1933 just after Hitler came to power Germany. Cardinal Burke compares the ordered mind of this great Catholic Saint and Martyr against the disordered destructive thinking and actions of the Nazis and points out how a well ordered legal system exemplified by Canon Law can be a great deterrent from such disorder. This begins in a a very personal way in a well ordered love in the form of fidelity to one’s vocation whether to the married life or religious life, all patterned on the loving relationship between God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Ave Maria! In this episode Fr. Angelo and Corinn Dahm discuss the connection between the general lack of marriage and abortion. Corinn begins by quoting a statistic that 87% of women that have abortions are not married. They further relate this to the general loss of the sense of family and the orientation of sexuality to that end and how this effects our society. Ave Maria! +++ |

Ave Maria! Marriage Day at the Aldrich Mansion – Sunday, August 16 The Marriage Day Celebration included live worship music, guest speakers, plenty of food, and activities for children. Tickets were sold for a cook-out style meal but attendees could also bring a picnic lunch. The highlight of the Sunday afternoon event was for married couples to renew their vows together at a beautiful waterfront setting. This was a great opportunity to take a stand for marriage as it was created: between a man and a woman. Our goal is to esteem marriage to its proper place in society and make a statement that Rhode Islanders believe strongly in this cherished institution. Ave Maria! +++ |
Ave Maria! Peter Wolfgang, Executive Director of the Family Institute of Connecticut (FIC), gives a talk at the Knights of Columbus Council #2087 in North Grosvenordale, CT for their fund-raising event to benefit FIC. He relates the current atmosphere of anti-religious bigotry prevailing in politics with that in the time of Fr. McGivney in New Haven, CT in late 1800′s that prompted him to start the Knights of Columbus. He especially mentions the grossly Anti-Catholic bill SB-1098 introduced in the CT Legislature in 2009 and the recent ACLU attack on FIC, a local Baptist Church in Bloomfield and a high school in Enfield, CT which you can read about here. Peter points out that the irrationality of these attacks suggest a vindictive payback to Catholics and Baptist for joining ranks with FIC to successfully stop gay marriage in the CT legislature. Ave Maria! Susan Boyce explains how the federal health care plan which seems to have been defeated when Scott Brown won the late Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat in Massachusetts is not at all defeated and still needs to be vigorously opposed. There is a real danger of stealth efforts to bypass normal rules by sneaking it into reconciliation without bringing it past the new senator. She further outlines the many problems that still exist in the plan, including half a trillion of new spending that will increase costs and taxes on employers reducing the number of jobs, unelected boards with unprecedented powers to dictate what gets funded, who gets health care or not. There are many indications that this rationing will be based on how ‘useful’ you are to society, similar to the Nazis. It would also be a blow to religious freedoms due to the lack of conscience clauses in regard to abortion and abortifacients, mandated home visits, government oversight of marriage counseling. And, of course, abortion funding is still in the plan. Ave Maria! +++ |

Ave Maria! Fra Isaac Haas, FI outlines his experience in the battle for marriage while he worked with National Organization for Marriage (NOM) before he became a friar. He covers the reason for NOM being created, how it counters the very well funded machine that is advocating for the radical changes in the definition of marriage which has far ranging consequences in regard to religious freedom and the ill effects on family and children.
