Short Series #31 – Tradition in Scotus’ Mariology ( 40min) >>> Play
Ave Maria!
Since yesterday’s post for Scotus Month was on the radical Christology of Scotus, and is the firm basis for his Mariology, this is a natural post to follow up and lead us to tomorrow’s grand feast of the Immaculate Conception which Scotus was so famous for defending, and so central to the Franciscans of the Immaculate. The audio is a bit low at first but gets better.
In the seventh presentation at our International Centenary Symposium on the Mariology of Bl. John Duns Scotus held in Durham, England, Fr. Peter discusses the source of tradition present in the Mariology of Bl. John Duns Scotus.
Roving Reporter #111 – Fr. Jerome Pica and Friar Terrance speak on John Duns Scotus (23min) >>> Play
A repost of past video for Scotus Month (Nov 8 to Dec 8).
Ave Maria!
Recently Friar Terrance had the opportunity to chat with Fr. Jerome Pica, F.I., and to talk with him about Bl. John Duns Scotus, a famous Franciscan scholastic philosopher/theologian who is still unknown to most of the world. The Franciscans of the Immaculate in Italy have recently finished a full-length movie on the life of Duns Scotus. We hope you enjoy the interview which we’ve titled “Who is John Duns Scotus…and why is he important?”, and we send our apologies for the setting of the interview…but it’s the best we could do!

Marycast #88 (10min) Play – In this Marycast Dr. Miravalle focuses on Mary’s role as Mediatrix. He explains how Mary’s mediation as well as our own mediation does not take away from Christ’s role as the One Mediator, but manifests His power. When we pray for others – we pray in Jesus to the Father – we are participating in the One Mediator.
Marycast #87 (10min) Play – In this Marycast, Dr. Miravalle speaks about Lumen Gentium #58. He begins by explaining what Our Lord meant when addressing our Lady’s request at the Wedding Feast at Cana and goes on to speak about our Lady’s cooperation in the work of Salvation by uniting herself with her Son’s sufferings.
Marycast #86 (10min) Play – In this Marycast, Dr. Miravalle explains what the Second Vatican Council had to say about Mary’s active cooperation in the work of Salvation. He also explains what the Council was saying when it referred to her as the new Eve.
Marycast #85 (10min) Play -There are three principle passages in the Old Testament where our Lady is foreshadowed and the Second Vatican Council addresses all three of these. Dr. Miravalle gives an explanation of these passages.
Marycast #84 (11min) Play – While speaking about Chapter 8 of Lumen Gentium, Dr. Miravalle explains that although the Council did not solemnly define Mary’s Maternal Mediation, it does not mean that it won’t happen some time afterward. Over 500 Council Fathers petitioned to have it solemnly defined. We had a similar situation when there were many requests to solemnly define the Assumption of Our Lady at Vatican I, but it wasn’t until after the Council that it was done.
Marycast #83 (11min) Play - Dr. Miravalle explains that the Second Vatican Council’s doctrine on Mary is possibly the most complete treatment of Our Lady in any Ecumenical Council since the origins of the Church. In this video and the following two, he intends to show where the Council points to for authentic Marian doctrinal development.
Marycast #82 (11min) Play – In this video Dr. Miravalle reads some of the details of the cross examination of the Francisco and Jacinta that took place on October 19, 1917. He also gives an interpretation of what the Miracle of the Sun might mean.
Marycast #81 (14min) Play – Dr. Miravalle reads to us from Sr. Lucia’s memoirs, relating the words of our Lady that had most touched her from the last of the six apparitions of our Lady in 1917. He also reads an incredible eye witness account of the miracle of the sun and gives an explanation of some of its details.
Marycast #80 (10min) Play – Dr. Miravalle speaks about the Miracle of the Sun, which had 70,000 witnesses, and also about Our Lady’s message at this miraculous event. She asked that a Chapel be built, that we pray the Rosary every day, and…
Marycast #79 (10min) Play -The idea of Our Lady as Co-Redemptrix is an ancient teaching, which has its root in the understanding of Mary as the New Eve. In the 5th century, there are liturgies calling Her the Salvatrix and the Liberatrix. St. Andrew of Crete in the 8th century said, “In you we have been redeemed from corruption. All of us have obtained salvation through her.”
Marycast #78 (10min) Play – In this episode Dr. Miravalle quotes several of the Church Fathers to point out the continuity of our Faith concerning Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception, Her Divine Maternity, Her Universal Mediation, as well as Consecration to Her. St. John Damascene, a Church Father from the 8th century, was the author of a consecration prayer – “We give to you, Our Lady, our mind, our heart, our soul – all that we are.”
Marycast #77 (10min) Play – Pope John Paul II stated that “the Church is first Marian and second Petrine”, meaning that Christians must first and foremost be imitators of Mary, the handmaid of the Lord, and then look to Peter (the Pope) to keep us united in the one true Faith. In this episode, Dr. Miravalle discusses this as he speaks on the origins of Marian tradition and devotion in the Church.
