Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Homily #100523 ( 12min) Play – Today on Pentecost Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on Mary and the Apostles. Fr. Angelo focuses on the fact that the Gospel reading for this feast are from the Last Supper where Our Lord institutes the Eucharist and thus the connection between the transformative power of the Holy Spirit and that of the priestly ministry, especially during the consecration of the bread into the Eucharist and, in turn, for the transformation of ourselves into His disciples.

Video – Face Pro-Life #81: Susan Boyce – Health Care and Catholic Principles

Face of Pro-Life #81 – Susan Boyce on the Health Care Plan ( 30min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Susan Boyce discusses how the proposed Health Care is against the Catholic social principle of Subsidiarity. Bishops are doing good by fighting for the Stupac Amendment but ignore the fact that it is against the Catholic principle of subsidiarity where the smallest organization should take care of any given issue and only go to a state or national organization if this is needed. She mentions how the bill saddles us with too high of a tax burden, and bureaucratic institutions that are too large. As such, once it passes it will be hard to get rid of. She praises two bishops in Kansas City who are are advocating opposition of the bill because it does not achieve the Catholic balance of not being too individualistic nor too socialistic.

Dec 11 – Homily – Fr Angelo: Vigil of Guadalupe

Friday, December 11th, 2009
Click to Play

Homily #091211s ( 17min) Play – Fr. Angelo gives the homily for the vigil Mass for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is a Solemnity here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary. He relates the story of St. Juan Diego and how Our Lady asks him to give a message to the bishop that she wants a chapel built on Tepiac Hill near the Aztec Capitol. He particulary relates how Our Lady wanted Juan Diego to become willing himself to accept the task. This is especially relavant in that today David Houseal will be entering Novitiate here at Our Lady of Guadalupe friary where he will be preparing to make religious vows that includes Consideration to Our Lady in this Missionary order of the FI. So on this joyous day and throughout the year, please keep David in your prayers as he prepares to be another Juan Diego. Oh, and his new religious name is Fra David Maria of St Joseph and and Bl. Elizabeth of the Holy Trinity or just Fra David for short.

The Reed of God

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

madonna

I am your reed, sweet shepherd, glad to be.

Now, if you will, breathe out your joy in me

And make bright song.

Or fill me with the soft moan of your love

When your delight has failed to call or move

The flock from wrong.

Make children’s songs, or any songs to fill

Your reed with breath of life; but at your will

Lay down the flute,

And take repose, while music infinite

Is silence in your heart; and laid on it

Your reed is mute.

Our Duties to Our Blessed Mother

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Ave Maria Meditations
+

After having fulfilled our obligations toward the Son of God, we have three duties to his holy Mother:

+

The first is to prostrate ourselves in heart and in spirit at her feet asking her pardon for the cruel death of her Son, and for the most bitter sufferings of her pure heart which we have caused. In reparation, we must offer her all the honor, glory, and praise which have been, are, and will be forever rendered to her in heaven as well as on earth by the Most Holy Trinity, by the sacred humanity of her Son, by all the angels, and all the saints. We must also give ourselves to our Lady as her slaves, promising that we wish to serve and honor her all our lives in every way possible to us.

Thoughts on the Co-redemptrix

Saturday, March 21st, 2009
Ave Maria Meditations

+

Jesus was offered to his Father in the arms of Mary.

Never had such an offering been made in that temple before and never again would there be another like it. The next such Offering would be made by Jesus himself.

+

Mary, Co-redemptrix with Christ. The meaning of pain.

Old Simeon, having blessed the young couple, turned to Mary and, inspired by the Holy Spirit, opened her eyes to the sufferings her Son would have to undergo and to the sword of sorrow that would pierce her soul. Pointing to Jesus, he said: Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. An Advent Meditation

Ave Maria Meditations

madonna

The infant Christ is the whole Christ. Christ was not more God, more Christ, more man, on the Cross than He was in His Mother’s womb. His first tear, His first smile, His first breath, His first pulsation in the womb of His Mother, could have redeemed the world. In fact, Christ chose the life of growth and work and suffering, and the death on the Cross which we know; but by His own choice all this was to depend on a human being giving herself to Him in His infancy, giving her own humanity to the actual making of that Infant’s humanity and giving Him her life in which to rest.

40. Hence the revered Mother of God, from all eternity joined in a hidden way with Jesus Christ in one and the same decree of predestination, immaculate in her conception, a most perfect virgin in her divine motherhood, the noble associate of the divine Redeemer who has won a complete triumph over sin and its consequences, finally obtained, as the supreme culmination of her privileges, that she should be preserved free from the corruption of the tomb and that, like her own Son, having overcome death, she might be taken up body and soul to the glory of heaven where, as Queen, she sits in splendor at the right hand of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages.

August 14th: St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe, pray for us!

August 14th: St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe
?

Dearest children, I desire very much to tell you, to repeat for you, now good the Immaculate is. That way I could remove forever from your little hearts all sadness, despondency and discouragement. The word “Maria” spoken by a soul steeped in doubts, aridity and even misfortune due to sin re-echoes in her heart, which loves us very much. And the greater the unhappiness of a soul sunk in its faults, the more solicitous is the care of her, the Refuge of us poor sinners. Never worry that you do not feel this love. If you have the will to love, you already give a proof that you love. What counts is the will to love. External feeling is also a fruit of grace, but it does not always follow the will. Sometimes, my dear ones, the thought, a sad longing, as if a plea or a complaint, may occur to you: “Does the Immaculate still love me?” Most beloved children! I tell you all and each one individually, in her name (mark that: in her name!), she loves every one of you. She loves you very much and at every moment, with no exception. This, my dearest children, I repeat for you in her name??? (more…)
