Homily #100305 ( 06min) Play – In today’s Gospel we read: “By the Lord this has been done; and it is wonderful in our eyes.” Both the first reading (Joseph’s prophecy that he will rule over his brothers) and the Gospel (The parable of the vineyard tenants) talk of extraordinary prophecies. Fr. Angelo preaches on how these prophecies are at first rejected but in the end they are fulfilled by this very rejection and even become the means to save the rejectors. This is especially true with Christ.

Fr Ignatius preaches on the importance of the family and how far we have slid in regard to marriage statistics. Ave Maria Meditations
August 2nd: St. Peter Julian Eymard, Apostle of Eucharistic Adoration

St. Peter Julian Eymard was born in France in 1811. He was ordained in 1834 for the Society of Mary. Because of his extraordinary love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and realizing there was no Order of priests dedicated to perpetual adoration, he was permitted to found such an Order–the Congregation of theBlessed Sacrament. He also founded the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. His written works on the Holy Eucharist are classics in that field. He died in 1868 and his feast day is August 2nd. The following are a few excerpts from his writings.
EXAMINE YOUR CONSCIENCE IN THE MORNING UNDER THE EYES OF JESUS IN THE HOST
On awakening, make the sign of the cross. On arising say: “0 Sacrament Most Holy, 0 Sacrament Divine! All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine! Blessed be the Holy and Immaculate Conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
ADORE our Lord as your King who has called you today to work in his amiable service and for his honor and glory. Render him this day the homage of your mind, your heart, your body and your life for he deserves it all.
THANK our Lord for having kept you alive; thank him for all the graces received during your life (baptism, first communion, vocation). Rejoice at the honor and the happiness of spending this whole day in union with our Divine Lord in his Sacrament of love: such a day may be worth an entire life, the whole of Paradise.

Let us love, then, because he first loved us. (1Jn4:19)
+
In your mercy, Lord, you called me,
Taught my sinful heart and mind,
Else this world had still enthralled me,
And to glory kept me blind.
+
Lord, I did not freely chose you
Till by grace you set me free;
For my heart would still refuse you
Had your love not chosen me.
+
Now my heart sets none above you,
For your grace alone I thirst,
Knowing well, that if I love you,
You, O Lord, have loved me first.

With each passing year the unfolding of the Resurrection Gospel of Emmaus becomes more luminous, more transparent like the favorite page in an old book, the page that with each reading delights one anew. The repetition and ritual recurrence of the Word shapes and reshapes the Church, making her ever more perfectly Christ’s beloved Bride, the Companion of the New Adam, born from His pierced side. You recall that it was this very page of the Gospel that was given us by the Servant of God, Pope John Paul II as the heart of his message for the Year of the Eucharist. He presented the mystery of Emmaus as a kind of Eucharistic icon.
