Homily #101106 ( 18min) Play – On this First Saturday devotional Mass in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary we have the Gospel account of the losing of the child Jesus on the way from Jerusalem to Nazareth and the finding in the Temple three days later. Fr. Angelo relates how Mary and Joseph did, in fact, experience grief but they did not despair nor where they completely ignorant of the meaning of Christ’s staying in the Temple contrary to modern Bible scholars. Father explains the purpose of Human knowledge as it relates to faith and to the apparitions of Mary at Fatima from whence the First Saturday Devotions come, where she tells us to offer up our suffering in reparation for the offense to her Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of our impious age.

Homily #100908s ( 14min) Play – today on the feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary we have our annual professions where our novices make first profession and those in temporary vows renew theirs. Fr. Angelo relates this generous sacrifice of their lives (to the service of God) to the calling mentioned by Paul in the first reading and the calling of Mary and Joseph to the exulted role of heading the Holy Family that is related in the Gospel. He also relates this to the sacrifices of St Maximilian (one of the patrons of our order) who pursued heroic efforts to spread the faith and how difficulties when conformed to Christ becomes effective to the conversion of others.

Homily #100305 ( 06min) Play – In today’s Gospel we read: “By the Lord this has been done; and it is wonderful in our eyes.” Both the first reading (Joseph’s prophecy that he will rule over his brothers) and the Gospel (The parable of the vineyard tenants) talk of extraordinary prophecies. Fr. Angelo preaches on how these prophecies are at first rejected but in the end they are fulfilled by this very rejection and even become the means to save the rejectors. This is especially true with Christ.

Homily #091227 ( 24min) Play – Today is the Feast of the The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and Fr. Bonaventure explains that the family is the core to a culture of life and saving the family from the attacks of the author of death, the Devil, is the central battle of our day. Jesus, Mary and Joseph are the exemplars of family life both in their exulted charity to which we should strive and in regard to the assaults that they survived in the form of Herod’s attempt to destroy them. Let us encourage the entire human family to embrace this ideal of love and courage.

Ave Maria Mediations

Joseph’s mission:
And Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary,
of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.
Among the Jews, as among other peoples of nomadic origin, the genealogical tree was of vital importance. A person was known fundamentally of the clan or tribe to which he belonged rather than by the place where he lived. Among the Hebrews we have the added circumstances of belonging to the chosen people through ties of a person’s ancestry being traced through the male. Joseph, as the husband of Mary, was the legal father of Jesus and, as such, carried the duties of a true father. Joseph, like Mary, was of the house and family of David of whom would be born the Messiah.
