Christopher West has quoted me in his new book, At the Heart of the Gospel: Reclaiming the Body for the New Evangelization.
Here is West’s own description of the book which he relates to the debate that has rippled across the internet and to which this blog has contributed:
In the midst of these conversations, my work as a popularizer of John Paul II’s teaching has been the subject of some rather harsh critiques. During an extended sabbatical in 2010, I reflected prayerfully on the various challenges my work has received, seeking to glean as much as possible from what various authors were saying. This book is the fruit of those reflections (2).
Kevin O’Brien of the Theater of the Word Incorporated has posted on the subject of West’s critique of my statements. The source of those statements was a guest post I wrote for Dawn Eden. West does not cite his source, so his readers have no ability to assess (more…)

Homily #110103 ( 10min) Play – On the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus, Fr. Bonaventure preaches on the power of His name. The Jews never used the name of God because it implied a power over God. For this reason reverence should be exercised whenever invoking Jesus’ name and certainly we must avoid any misuses especially using it in vain or even in a blasphemous way.

Homily #101106 ( 18min) Play – On this First Saturday devotional Mass in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary we have the Gospel account of the losing of the child Jesus on the way from Jerusalem to Nazareth and the finding in the Temple three days later. Fr. Angelo relates how Mary and Joseph did, in fact, experience grief but they did not despair nor where they completely ignorant of the meaning of Christ’s staying in the Temple contrary to modern Bible scholars. Father explains the purpose of Human knowledge as it relates to faith and to the apparitions of Mary at Fatima from whence the First Saturday Devotions come, where she tells us to offer up our suffering in reparation for the offense to her Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of our impious age.

Bonaventure explains that we have much to worry about in this regard since he says the number will be few. This is confirmed by the Fathers and Doctors of the Church. He stresses the need to have recourse to the mercy of God through the sacraments of the Church and lead others to Holy Mother Church to devotion to Christ and His Mother.

After three years of being guardian at Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary in Griswold, CT, USA (which is headquarters for AirMaria) Fr. Ignatius will be leaving for Italy on October 13th to continue his studies for his doctorate in Moral Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. Fr. Dominic Murphy, who has been transferred from New Bedford, MA where he was guardian, has already assumed the role of guardian at the friary and you can see his first homily on AirMaria here.
We will definitely miss you, Fr. Ignatius, and we will pray for the success of your studies and for every grace from God. Arrivederci!

Homily #100908s ( 14min) Play – today on the feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary we have our annual professions where our novices make first profession and those in temporary vows renew theirs. Fr. Angelo relates this generous sacrifice of their lives (to the service of God) to the calling mentioned by Paul in the first reading and the calling of Mary and Joseph to the exulted role of heading the Holy Family that is related in the Gospel. He also relates this to the sacrifices of St Maximilian (one of the patrons of our order) who pursued heroic efforts to spread the faith and how difficulties when conformed to Christ becomes effective to the conversion of others.

Ave on the Air

New Catholic radio station launches in Southern Tier

The first radio station in the U.S. owned and operated by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate has taken to the airwaves in the Syracuse Diocese.
The station, called Holy Virgin Mary Radio, can be found at 91.9 FM and is transmitting out of Barton, N.Y. The station is run from the Friars’ Mount St. Francis Hermitage in Maine, N.Y. and from the Franciscan Friary in Griswold, Conn.

Homily #100530 ( 26min) Play – For Holy Trinity Sunday and the closing Mass for the Knights of Lepanto Father-Son Encampment, Fr Angelo preaches on how the Trinity is three Persons and yet united as if it where and Army, working as one for the salvation of all men. He stresses the need to acknowledge that the Second Person of the Trinity became man to win our salvation and so enable the Holy Trinity to dwell within us. Our hearts then become the divine fortress of the Trinity and this forms the base to sally forth and practice the virtues, especially charity.

Homily #100520 ( 08min) Play – Today is the feast of St. Bernadine of Siena, a Franciscan preacher who worked for the reform of the Franciscan Order when it was becoming lax and then did the same for Christianity throughout Italy. He also spread devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus in the abbreviation IHS, Iesus Hominum Salvator (“Jesus, Savior of men” in Latin) and to the Virgin Mary.
