Feb 07 – Homily – Fr Angelo: Good Intentions

Sunday, February 7th, 2010
Click to Play

Homily #100207 ( 14min) Play – In today’s Gospel we see St. Peter being Peter, that is, he has the best of intentions and yet is very imperfect in carrying them out.  He wants to obey when Our Lord asks him to set out for the deep in his boat, and does, but he complains first, only to see how unworthy he is when Our Lord manifests his holiness with the miracle of the great catch of fish. Fr Angelo compares this to the first reading of Isaiah where Isaiah sees the holiness of God and knows he is unworthy to be His messenger and the need for God’s gift of sanctification to be made worthy.
Ave Maria! Mass readings

R: Ps 138:1-5,7-8
2: 1 Cor 15:1-11

Homily #100127 ( 09min) Play – St Bernard of Clairvaux preached the second crusade. But, despite the fact that he was able to  perform many miracles to confirm that this was the will of God, the crusade failed resulting in the loss of many Christian soldiers and a setback for Christian control of the Holy Land. Fr. Ignatius points out that it is sometimes God’s will that we be humbled in order to bring about greater virtue.

Homily #100124 ( 14min) Play – From today’s Gospel Fr Bonaventure preaches on the fact that Jesus is God and our Salvation. He contrasts this to the ancient heresy of Gnosticism that placed the hope of salvation in human knowledge. Listen as he explains that this was an early form of Modernism, containing a very dangerous, prideful intellectualism which has become an almost universal mindset today and how only Christ can guide us away from shipwreck.

Jan 14 – Homily – Fr Ignatius: St. Hilary vs Arianism

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Click to Play

Homily #100114 ( 06min) Play – St. Hilary of Poitiers fought the heresy of Arianism in his time. He did this by being true to the Magisterium. As the Catechism says:

Par 85 “The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living teaching office of the Church alone. Its authority in this matter is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ.” This means that the task of interpretation has been entrusted to the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome.

This simple policy guarantees that we won’t fall into error of personal interpretation whether of scripture as the Protestants do or of Tradition as the ultra Traditionalists do.

Jan 12 – Homily – Fr Ignatius: Bl. Oderic of Portunaone

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Homily #100112 ( 05min) Play – Today we celebrate the feast of Bl. Oderic of Portunaone who was a Franciscan priest who traveled all the way to China to preach the Gospel in the early 1300’s. Thus he lived the message in the Catechism on Paragraph 74 which teaches that God wants all men to be saved. This underscores today’s Gospel where Our Lord says:

The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few.  Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest.

Let us remember to pray for more missionary priests to reap this great harvest.

Jan 01 – Homily – Fr Bonaventure: Mother of God vs Techno-Pantheism

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Homily #100101 ( 16min) Play – Solemnity of the Mother of God. Mary’s Divine Maternity is key to the beauty and wonder of this holy season of Christmas because it highlights the fact that Jesus is true God and true man, two natures united, yet remaining distinct, in one Divine Person. As such Mary is truely the Mother of God. Father explains how this central truth of the Incarnation has fought ancient paganism and pantheism and how it will be the main means to fight the modern forms of these errors, which Father calls Techno-Pantheism.
