Fi News – Power is back

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Ave Maria!

The power is finally back at our friary here in Griswold. Deo Gratias! Our prayers go out to all who have not gotten their power back or have suffered more tragic losses. Even with our small problems here we now have a much greater appreciation for the wonders of electricity which we normally take for granted.

It was mighty hurricane Irene, one of the biggest hurricanes (if you count size alone) which knocked out our power.

But it was a little tiny mouse which prevented our standby generator from coming on. (more…)

Roving Reporter #120 – First Holy Mass of 4 New FI Priests, celebrated at Assisi ( 13min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

This is the first Holy Mass celebrated by the newly-ordained FI priests, Fr. Alan Bernardino Wharton (USA), Fr. Vincent Michael Egbu (Nigeria), Fr. Giles Joseph Mary Atherton (Australia), and Fr. Vincent d’Elia (Italy). Our new priests had the privilege of celebrating at the Sanctuary of the Portziuncola in Assisi in the same edifice in which Saint Francis himself entrusted the Order of the Friars Minor into the hands of Our Lady some 800 years ago. The Mass was celebrated on March 26, 2011, the day after their holy ordinations at Tarquinia in Italy, and we ask that you remember these new servants of our Lord in your prayers. (more…)

Fi News – The saints who live among us | SouthCoastToday.com

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Ave Maria! Linda Andrade Rodrigues of South Coast Today (online version of New Bedford’s Standard Times) published an article about us today, St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Feast Day. She had many kind words about us and Mother Teresa’s Order in New Bedford. We will have to explain to her,  though, that we are not quite ready for canonization. Thanks, Linda!

NEW BEDFORD — Trappist monk and author Thomas Merton wrote, “Oh my God! You see what a barren and desolate place this world is —- send us saints!”

The answer to his prayers, our city is blessed by the good works of saints.

Walk along our streets, and you’ll see Mother Teresa’s nuns in their white and striped-blue habits, ministering in our neighborhoods.

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta sent her order, the Missionaries of Charity, to New Bedford, and on June 14, 1995, she visited the city, worshipped at the Church of St. Lawrence Martyr and touched the lives of countless SouthCoast residents.

Dressed in simple gray robes with sandaled feet, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate reach out to this city’s homeless and forgotten, and offer spiritual guidance to a constant stream of strangers who wander through the doors of Our Lady’s Chapel in downtown New Bedford. More …

Congratulations to Archbishop Raymond Burke

Thursday, July 29th, 2010
Ave Maria!
Congratulations to Archbishop Raymond Burke for his appointment as a member of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints.
Diane at Te Deum Laudamus and her commenters has compiled a list of the many responsibilities given to Bishop Burke since going to Rome. Here is the list:
The story was also picked up by Patrick Madrid and Thomas Peters both of whom agree with Diane that this flies in the face of some dissenting Catholics who suggest that he was moved to Rome to silence his orthodox views.  Not only is this not the case but he is a prime candidate for Cardinal.
La Crosse – Marian Symposium
If you wish to congratulate him personally on his latest appointment, he will be coming on August 21st to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI  which he was instrumental in having built while he was the bishop there. The occasion will be the 2010 Marian Symposium, MARY: COREDEMPTRIX, MEDIATRIX, ADVOCATE presented by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, the  Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici:
The august speakers will be:
HIS EMINENCE LUIS CARDINAL APONTE MARTINEZ – Archbishop Emeritus, San Juan, Puerto Rico

HIS EXCELLENCY ARCHBISHOP RAYMOND L. BURKE – Prefect, Apostolic Signatura, Rome

MSGR. ARTHUR B. CALKINS – Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, Mariologist

DR. MARK I. MIRAVALLE – Franciscan University of Steubenville, President of Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici

MC: DREW MARIANI – Journalist and Talk Show Host, Relevant Radio
