By a rare inspiration of God, though he married to content his nobles and people, he preserved perfect chastity in the wedded state. So little did he set his heart on riches, that three times when he saw a servant robbing his treasury, he let him escape, saying the poor man needed the gold more than he. He loved to stand at his palace-gate, speaking kindly to the poor beggars and lepers who crowded about him, and many of whom he healed of their diseases. The people rejoiced in having a Saint for their king.

Angelo explains that the Culture of Life refers to more than just beginning and end of life issues, but to the entire moral environment in which we live.  Things like abortion, contraceptives, and euthanasia are the fruit of a bad moral environment.  Fr. Angelo believes that pro-lifers need to know that their spiritual life and personal conversion need to come before anything else.

Fr. Angelo Geiger, F.I. blogs again on the Christopher West – Theology of the Body controversy. This time as a guest blogger on Dawn Eden’s The Dawn Patrol.

He points out that the discussion has deteriorated on many blogs into a shouting match between Christopher West haters and Christopher West groupies and in the process the real issue is lost.

He sees that we have to get a firm understanding of how original sin is the cause of both extremes, of Victorian prudishness on the one hand and the unrestrained lust of Hugh Hefner on the other. He insists that Christopher West’s blind spot is that does not grasp this point adequately and so he is in danger of falling into one of these extremes. Another insightful article by Fr. Angelo enlightens us on the dignity of human labor in the context of Catholicism as opposed to Communism or extreme Capitalism where the worker is a mere cog in the system.
