July 25th: The Anniversary of a Prophetic Encyclical

Thursday, July 24th, 2008
Ave Maria Meditations
In our present world where the embracing of intrinisic evils, which are the compromises with the devil, are becoming more and more mainstream and even mandated, a courageous voice spoke out in 1968. He was publicly denounced for this even by high ranking clergy. Society was warned but did not heed the warning and never has human life become so cheapened and the dignity of a human being so debased. The consequences of the embracing of moral evils has yet to be fully realized. God help us.

July 21st: St. Lawrence of Brindisi, a Franciscan Doctor of the Church

Sunday, July 20th, 2008
Saint Lawrence of Brindisi is the Apostolic Doctor and the doctor of conversions and missions. He said that the Savior would have become man even if the first man, Adam, had not sinned. No other doctor stated more clearly how much God desires to share love with us with these profound words. From this comment, we understand that God is a Lover first and afterwards a Savior. It is primarily through his love in the person of Jesus Christ as Savior that we know how to be saved.Jesus’ coming reveals why we need to continue his mission with him and have a mission or purpose for others. Conversion and sanctification can be a life-long process acted out daily. (more…)

Jun 15 – Homily – Fr Bonaventure: Mercy of Christ

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Homily #080615 ( 00min) Play – Fr. Bonaventure highlights how deep the mercy of Christ is for His sheep in the account presented in the Gospel today. He points out that this mercy and compassion which leads Our Lord to die for His sheep is the key mark that distinguishes a good pastor from bad and motivates the good ones to feed their sheep with the true, unchanging doctrine entrusted to the apostles and their successors. From this basis he launches into a critique of modern culture and politics that fall far short of the mark.

Ave Maria!

This second to last part of our series by Fr. Joseph Fessio, S.J., on recent Vatican documents covers the document issued July 9th, two days after the Motu Proprio, by the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith entitled “Responses to some Questions Regarding Certain Aspects of the Document on the Church” i.e. Lumen Gentium

This document was issued by the Congregation to clarify some points of confusion since the close of the Second Vatican Council.

Questions addressed in this talk are:

  • Did the Second Vatican Council change the Catholic Doctrine on the Church?”
  • What is the meaning of the word ‘subsists’ in the statement the “Church … subsists in the Catholic Church” LG 8
  • Why the word subsist was used instead of ‘is’.
  • Why does the council use the word ‘churches’ for the separated Eastern Orthodox?
  • Why does the Council not use the word Church for the Protestant communities?

In answer to the first question Fr. Fessio quotes Pope Paul VI, who after the Council says, “What Christ willed, we also will. What was, still is. What the Church has taught down the centuries, we also teach.”

AMEN!

Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, Advocate #8 – Dr. Miravalle Explains Mary’s role as Advocate (7min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

In this episode Dr. Miravalle explains Mary’s title of Advocate. Come listen to this talk as he gives the context of this title relative to the other titles of Coredemptrix and Mediatrix, what the early Christians believed and how it is foreshadowed in the Old Testament.

Advocacy in the context of Coredemption and Mediation:

Coredemption: Mary suffers as her Son dies on the Cross and so participates in winning graces.
Mediation: Mary distributes to us the Graces won in the redemption (from God to man).
Advocate: Mary speaks on behalf of Christians to God about our needs (thus communicates from man to God)
