Variety #94 – Bsp. Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska (14min) >>> Play
Ave Maria!
Fr. Elias Mills of our Bloomington, Indiana friary recently interviewed the renowned Bishop Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska on current issues of faith and Church in America. We are posting them here in a five part series. In the first part, in answering Fr. Elias questions, the bishop relates his thoughts about:
His 50 years as a priest and bishop in the Church and all the changes and events in the time.
His visits to shrines in Europe and Rome.
His 19 years as Bishop of Lincoln.
The graces that are ever needed for his office
His work with John Paul II and Benedict XVI
What these two papacies have done for the Church especially the continuity that they reaffirmed between the post and pre-Vatican II Church
The Moto Proprio of Pope Benedict and how it is not at all against Vatican II
The unlikelihood of a mixture of the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms of the liturgy
New English translation of the Ordinary Form of the Liturgy
How well Catechisis has been carried out in the Post Vatican II era
balance needed between doctrine and pastoral and social concerns
Listening to Bsp. Bruskewitz’s clear insights and answers is refreshing indeed.
Conferences #86 – Dr. Mark Miravalle covers all the bases on Coredemption ( 57min) >>> Play
Ave Maria!
Dr. Mark Miravalle gives the third talk called “Now is the Time for the Fifth Dogma” for our symposium “Mother of the Church” on Marian Coredemption in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 21, 2010. Here he gives an amazingly compact run down of pretty much everything about this doctrine. He covers the other Marian doctrines that where proclaimed before Coredemption and how these relate it. He explains, what the doctrine contains, what it means for us, what it does not mean, its importance, its status in regard to becoming a dogma, mentions that virtually every saint, pope, and approved apparition of Mary in the last one hundred years supports the doctrine. He also answers common objections. Whew! all in less than an hour. Listening to this talk is time well spent if you want a thorough understanding of Mary Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate or, in other words, Mother of all Peoples, Mother of the Church. Enjoy!
Homily #100911 (10min) Play – In today’s Gospel Our Lord gives us the parable of the house built on sand. Fr. Bonaventure preaches on the fact that the true foundation of Rock is, indeed, Christ but more precisely on doing Christ’s will, ‘hears my words and does them’. He then points out how unbiblical is the Protestant doctrine of faith-alone when Our Lord clearly states the need for works. The poor understanding of this foundation explains why they have broken apart into thousands of sects. Father goes further and says that this is the base error of our modern society which builds on a foundation of the seven capital sins.

Homily #100530 (26min) Play – For Holy Trinity Sunday and the closing Mass for the Knights of Lepanto Father-Son Encampment, Fr Angelo preaches on how the Trinity is three Persons and yet united as if it where and Army, working as one for the salvation of all men. He stresses the need to acknowledge that the Second Person of the Trinity became man to win our salvation and so enable the Holy Trinity to dwell within us. Our hearts then become the divine fortress of the Trinity and this forms the base to sally forth and practice the virtues, especially charity.

Homily #100427 (10min) Play – St. Peter Canisius lived in the 1500s in a time that fulfilled the prophecy of St. Paul in today’s first reading:
For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: and will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.
Listen how St. Peter tactfully and lovingly deals with these errors.
MaryCast Specials #69 (06min) Play – Dr. Mark Miravalle continues with his synopsis of the Roman Forum sponsored by Inside the Vatican on March 25 in Rome and points out that the dogma does not impose on anyone but rather proposes what is already an accepted doctrine. The forum can be viewed at the Inside the Vatican Web Site.
Please pray for this soul who is leaving the Catholic Church. But, you will have to watch the video because he is not leaving for the reasons that you think.
Marycast #96 (10min) Play – Dr. Miravalle introduces a new mini-series on Mary Queen of Angels where he will present theology and the teachings of the fathers of the Church and how this doctrine is based on her relation to her Son Jesus. Finally he will discuss how this truth was part of the test to which the Angels were subjected which would determine whether they remain angels of light or become demons.
Fr. Philip Neri Powell from Domine da mihi hanc aquam! has posted a very enlightened defense of Marian coredemption. In particular I would like to make note of his replies to the objections against the fifth Marian dogma. He says there are basically two objections: 1) “a declaration of the proposed dogma is unnecessary since Catholic theology already recognizes Mary’s unique role in God’s plan for human salvation”; 2) “the dogma is ecumenically dangerous in that it threatens good relations with other Christian ecclesial communities by seeming to elevate Mary to a level equal to that of Christ as sole Redeemer.” For a thorough response to these objections I send you directly to his post. What I am most interested in is his response to objection 2 which I think is brilliant:
Father Powell puts his finger on the fear of many Catholics to speak the truth in the face of Protestant objections: “That we would flinch from speaking the truth because some might misunderstand simply means that we fear a negative response from our ecumenical partners.” I find this very true, for example, when discussing the meaning of the term “coredemption.” Many of the Catholic objectors to the dogma say that “coredemption” is an inherently confusing term because of the various ways in which “co-” can be used as a prefix. In English it means generally, as Father Powell points out, “with” and “equal to,” which is not the case in Latin. The point is that, yes, the term needs to be explained, but so what? Why don’t we just explain it? (more…)
1. The dignity of a person must be recognized in every human being from conception to natural death. This fundamental principle expresses a great “yes” to human life and must be at the center of ethical reflection on biomedical research, which has an ever greater importance in today’s world. The Church’s Magisterium has frequently intervened to clarify and resolve moral questions in this area. The Instruction Donum vitae was particularly significant. And now, twenty years after its publication, it is appropriate to bring it up to date.
The teaching of Donum vitae remains completely valid, both with regard to the principles on which it is based and the moral evaluations which it expresses. However, new biomedical technologies which have been introduced in the critical area of human life and the family have given rise to further questions, in particular in the field of research on human embryos, the use of stem cells for therapeutic purposes, as well as in other areas of experimental medicine. These new questions require answers.
Ineffabilis Deus: Apostolic Constitution issued by Bl. Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854
“We declare, pronounce and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine revealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful.”
Homily #081125 (12min) Play – “The days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” Fr. Bonaventure preaches on the importance of truth and the need to reject false doctrines.
