On the vigil of the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, four postulants took their next step toward Christ Crucified; now entering into the year of the novitiate. From now on JOHN will be known as – Friar John Mary of Our Lady of Grace, MARK – Friar Francis Arsenius Mary of Our Lady of Victory, BEN – Friar James Ezekiel Mary of the Interior Sufferings of Jesus in His Passion, DAVID – Friar Camillo Mary of the Passion.
According to tradition, St. David was the son of King Sant of South Wales and St. Non. He was ordained a priest and later studied under St. Paulinus. Later, he was involved in missionary work and founded a number of monasteries. The monastery he founded at Menevia in Southwestern Wales was noted for extreme asceticism. David and his monks drank neither wine nor beer – only water – while putting in a full day of heavy manual labor and intense study…

On this Fourth Sunday in Advent Fr. Ignatius explains how the prophecy of Nathan in the Old Testament, that the Lord will build a house for David and his descendants, comes to fulfillment in the New Testament as Mary gives her fiat at the humble Holy House of Nazareth. This comes about through Mary’s obedience of faith. Let us imitate her.
