In an address made on December 17th, Pope Benedict XVI highlighted the role of Mary, who is all beauty – ‘tota pulchra’ – in guiding us to the Way of Beauty – the ‘via pulchritudinis’. Once again, and echoing John Paul II before him in his Letter to Artists, Benedict highlights the importance of art united to the liturgy and manifesting theology; and the importance of the formation of this art through dialogue between artists, liturgists and theologians.

Homily #101219 ( 24min) Play – Today on the last Sunday in Advent Fr. Bonaventure McGuire explains how the marriage of Joseph is a true marriage in the light of Mary’s Perpetual Virginity and how this means that St. Joseph’s fatherhood is a true fatherhood over Jesus and true husband of Mary, and therefore true head of the Holy Family. Father stresses the great marvel that such a stupendous dignity of the stewardship of these awesome treasures were entrusted to a mere man. The key to making sense of these truths is that the marriage between Joseph and Mary was uniquely orientated to the incarnation and in turn the general orientation of all creation to this mystery makes sense of all history, of every little action done in love of Christ, and how the incarnation is then our one true hope.

Homily #100802 ( 15min) Play – Today is the feast of the chapel of Our Lady of the Angels also known as the Portiuncula or “Little Portion” and it is there that St Francis took up residence after his conversion and where the Order of Friar Minors first started to grow. Also it was known for being frequented by angels and thus its name. It is one of the three churches that St Francis rebuilt as preparation for his mission from Christ to rebuild the entire Catholic Church in general. So it had a very dear place in St Francis’s heart and he commanded his brothers to never give up possession of it. In fact, he asked his brothers to bring him there when he was dying and there passed from this life to the next.

Ave Maria!
Walsingham, in north Norfolk, England (United Kingdom) has been a place of pilgrimage since medieval times, when travel to Rome and Compostella was virtually impossible. The original Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, founded in 1061, was destroyed at the Reformation. Many barren years passed until the Slipper Chapel, a 14th century wayside pilgrim chapel, was restored and pilgrimage to Walsingham began once more. In 1934, the English Bishops named the Slipper Chapel the Roman Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady. -walsingham.org.uk
