May 03 – Homily – Fr Matthias: The Indwelling of the Trinity

Sunday, May 3rd, 2015

Homily #150503n ( 18min) Play – Father Matthias speaks of the Indwelling of the Holy Trinity in the souls of the baptized, telling us that a realization of this fundamental Christian doctrine is a most powerful motive to strive to turn away from creatures, and towards the Creator. But why don’t we percieve this presence? That is because it manifests itself only to the degree we are receptive of it, and often our hearts and minds are full of worldly, if not sinful, things. Let us examine what we fill our mind with and where we put our hearts, for where our treasure is, there our heart is also

May 03 – Homily – Fr Elias: Confirmation, Conversion, Holy Spirit

Sunday, May 3rd, 2015
Click to Play

Homily #150503b ( 18min) Play – Fr. Elias gives the homily to those who are preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. He starts with the conversion of St. Paul as accounted in the first reading for today. He then relates this to Confirmation in that we receive the Holy Spirit in this sacrament for our conversion and we are to strive for even further conversion through our life, to grow in holiness and happiness. This is done by conforming our will to God’s will and this is done by loving and obeying Him and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. This is all to be done and made fruitful by establishing a devout prayer life.

He covers the life of St. Athanasius whose memorial is today. The stalwart defense of truth that Athanasius led against the onslaught of the government backed Arian Heresy of the late Roman Empire is analogous to modern push to relativize all morality.
