Book Log #11 – Fra Solanus promotes The Virtues of Mary ( 11min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Friar Solanus reviews The Virtues of Mary, by Fr. Luigi Lanzoni, I.C., and published by the Academy of the Immaculate. This small, pocket-sized book is easy to read and contains just over 150 pages; it is well illustrated with beautiful sketches of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If we wish to imitate the B.V.M. as a person, we have to imitate her virtues: this little book will show you how to do this. The book was translated into English by Fr. Edward Hoare, an Australian Rosminian, and was first published in the English language in 1903.

Oct 24 – Homily – Fr Matthias: On the Holy Father’s Address to the Synod

Friday, October 24th, 2014
Click to Play

Homily #141024n ( 18min) Play – Fr. Mattias comments briefly on the life of St. Anthony Mary Claret who was a demanding and rigorous pastor, but because of his zeal and charity, the faithful were happy to live up to the demands of the Christian life. Moving from this example of episcopal zeal, Father comments on the closing address of Pope Francis to the Extraordinary Synod on the Family. First he looks at three canons the Holy Father alluded to, and then presents Pope Francis’ comments on some of the modern temptations that pastors may fall into. The Holy Father ends by directing the pastors of the Church not just to welcome the lost sheep, but to proactively search for them. Let us too take this advice and ask for the apostolic zeal ad charity of St. Anthony Mary Claret.

Oct 19 – Homily – Fr Elias: God’s will be Done

Sunday, October 19th, 2014

Homily #141019b ( 25min) Play – Fr. Elias on how God is so omnipotent that he can work His will through the most unlikely people, including Cyrus the King of Persia, who was the pagan ruler over the Israelites and unexpectedly allowed them to go back to Jerusalem from which they were exiled. This also applied to Caesar in the day of Jesus and any ruler even today. Father ties this together to delineate how government and religion are separate but related and complimentary and how both should be respected. He gives a final exhortation regarding the spiritual practicality of sacramentals.
