On September 8th, 2014, Fr. Louis Maximilian received the first profession of vows and the renewal of temporary vows. In this homily, Father speaks of the “reaction” we all owe to God’s “action,” and which is made possible by the “reaction” of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady’s faith and fidelity to God’s will. He asks us, if we don’t love, who will? We must all live out our call to sanctity, and the practice of Marian Consecration is the “quickest, surest, easiest way” of “reacting” to the love of God and becoming saints; IF WE LIVE IT OUT!

Here are some images of the professions, more may be found here.

A Pilgrim’s Ponderings – Reflections on the Way to Guadalupe « Archdiocese of Washington

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

Ave Maria!

I thought this was an interesting article about Monsignor Pope’s pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe because right now as I type the AirMaria Crew is also headed to Our Lady or Guadalupe’s Shrine, not in Mexico, but in La Crosse, Wisconsin. We will be filming the Marian Symposium there this Saturday, Oct 12.

Symposium Theme: The Year of Faith, the New Evangelization, and Our Lady
Honored Speakers and Guests:
Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC – Director of the Association of Marian Helpers
Msgr. Charles M. Mangan – Director of the Office of the Marian Apostolate in the Diocese of Sioux Falls
Gloria Dodd – The Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute
Eric Genuis – Composer, virtuoso pianist, and acclaimed performer – a proven thrill to music lovers of both classical and contemporary music. (www.ericgenuis.com)

Below Article by Mons. Charles Pope

I am leading about twenty parishioners to Guadalupe Mexico for the next seven days. As I leave, the following thoughts go with me, some personal, some Ecclesial as well.

1. Elevation. Mexico city and its environs are at or near 5,000 feet. For this human being, the highest point in DC is my former parish (St Ann’s) at 410 feet! Surely, even with recent weight loss, I am in for some breathless climbs. Thus, I am expecting some humility lessons! I think I am strong, but the earth is bigger, and God is infinitely more glorious.

Thank you Lord, teach me humility through elevation and a few steep climbs. I left my asthma inhaler behind when I lost weight. One of the good bishops here in DC told me to bring it anyway, the air is thin. So, I bring it.

2. Evangelization – Our Lady’s appearance at Guadalupe to Juan Diego was a major break-through. Many attempts had been made by the Missionaries of that time toward  the indigenous peoples of Mexico. But the results were discouraging. A combination of fear, rooted in the bloody human sacrifice of the Aztec religion, plus the counter-sign of Spanish Conquerors which made the Christian religion seem no less cruel,. All of this combined to make converts to the Catholic faith a rare thing.

Enter our Lady and the supply of the miraculous Tilma, and within ten years nine to ten million Mexicans became Catholic. That’s 3000 converts a day, a Pentecost every day for ten years!

Yes, Our Lady is Evangelizer in Chief, she’s a Momma on the move, the Mother of

The Truth About the Appointment of a Commissioner to the Franciscans of the Immaculate

Monday, September 30th, 2013

Update: Please, keep in mind that these statistics where never intended to be published. In fact, the entire visitation and the resulting decree regarding the appointment of the commissioner and the restriction of the Extraordinary Form for the FI were never intended to be published. Part of the shock of the news of the decree was that all the friars involved had done such a good job at not talking about it as per the request of the Vatican. Few outside the order knew we had any problem at all, even though the visitation had been taking place for about a year. Right at the time when we had the highest hope  (when the news of the decree was privately announced to the friars) of resolving our difficulties quietly behind closed doors, fully respecting everyone’s good reputation, not only was the decree leaked to the blogs that are sympathetic to traditionalism but, as outlined below, they broke the story in a way that made the Pope and the Vatican look bad with the resulting negative firestorm. What a mess! To help remedy this the Vatican has decided to publish the results of the questionnaire that provide good solid numbers to give everyone an idea of why they had to act. Some have taken offense that we are airing problems in our order, showing our dirty laundry. This is, indeed, unfortunate, but it is the only recourse now that our internal conflict has been made public and aggressively used by some outside the order to promote an agenda against the Vatican and our dear Holy Father, Pope Francis.

- Fra Roderic, Web Master

Sept 24, 2013

Publication of data from an internal questionnaire: Regarding the old Mass, 64% of the friars stated that there are problems, and as many as 77% of these said that they could only be resolved with an extraordinary General Chapter or by the appointment of a Commissioner over the Institute.

There is significant data blatantly contradicting many articles and bitter comments that have appeared over the last two months on blogs close to the traditionalist world, sites and blogs that attempt to reduce the internal affairs of the Franciscans of the Immaculate to the “traitorous” initiative of handful of friars allergic to the old Mass.

On 19 September, during the course of an audience of the Secretary of the Congregation for Religious with the Commissioner of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, Vatican officials authorized the publication of the statistical data emerging from the questionnaire that the Apostolic Visitator submitted to all the members of the Institute in perpetual vows. The questionnaire focused on four multiple-choice questions, suggested by the then Procurator General of the Franciscans of the Immaculate. The results speak for themselves, and demonstrate why the Holy See decided to intervene by appointing a Commissioner to the Institute.

The first point concerned the “style of government of the Superior General,” the founder of the Institute, Father Stefano Manelli. 39% of the friars responded that (more…)

Vatican Insider Interview of FFI General Secretary

“The Franciscans of the Immaculate under attack by outside lobbies”

Interview with the new secretary general Father Alfonso Bruno, accused of “treason” by some traditionalist groups

Vatican Insider

Controversy is yet to subside after the appointment of a Commissioner for the Franciscans of the Immaculate. In this interview, the new secretary general explains why.

Father Alfonso Bruno, is your appointment as Secretary-General by the Commissioner a choice in favor of friars critical of the founder?

“The Secretary-General, in accordance with the Constitutions of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, art. 100, ‘assists the Common Father in his personal contacts and correspondence with those outside the Institute; he redacts the acts of the Council; he takes care of the General Archives; he keeps up-to-date the records and statistics on the friars, houses and projects.’ It is a technical role and one of service for the benefit of the whole community, far removed therefore from any factionalism or partisanship. During the first weeks of his mandate, the Apostolic Commissioner spoke first personally, and then on August 30, 2013 in a recorded meeting, with all members of the former government of which I also was a part. After this meeting he insisted that I accept the appointment. His judgment was made after having prayed and thought about it, although I cannot enter into his ‘mens’. Aware of the ongoing tensions and conscious of my apostolic commitments, I did not want to assume this burden, which is challenging as regards both the time and energy required to carry it. Fr. Fidenzio Volpi, who took over the authority of the institute, told me: ‘It is the will of God, you have to help the Church … it is for the good of your religious family.’ I am a religious priest and as such in the Rule of St. Francis have professed obedience to and reverence for the Pope. I embraced my cross with the courage of faith, certain that the grace of God will support me in carrying out the mission entrusted to me.” (more…)

As you know we have been having problems with the audio for the homilies here in Bloomington. I have tried many things. Today I tried something and it was a total failure so there is no homily for today. But the good news is that I think I solved the audio problem for the future. Here is an audio test done after the Mass this morning. Let me know if it sounds good to you. Hopefully it is solved. Please leave comments on how it sounds.

PERPETUALPROFESSION F.I. – CHURCH OF S. FRANCIS IN TARQUINIA

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

Ave Maria! This happened over a week ago but better late than never. It is good to see Fra Philomeno, Fra Geroge and Fra Terrance, all of whom passed through Griswold for their novitiate back when AirMaria was headquartered there. Congratulations to all the new professed!

Fourteen Franciscans Friars of the Immaculate made their perpetual profession in Tarquinia last August 31, 2013. They are young people of different nationalities, from countries like Benin, Philippines, Great Britain, Italy, Nigeria, USA:

Fra Theophilus M. Toribio, Fra Peter M. Alivio, Fra Ignatius M. Sevilla, Fra Conrad M. Flores, Fra John Gerard M. Anthony Agravante, Fra Luc M. Awolo, Fra James M. Shatu, Fra Francis M. Nnama, Fra Jean M. Segbedji, Fra Philomeno James M Gilfoyle, Fra Terrence Jean M. Chartier, Fra George M. Pio Piahive, Fra Francesco M. Pio Iuliani, Fra Rosario Joseph M. Anabessa-Ebanka.

The Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary celebrated during the profession wished to signify the close bond of the professing friars with Our Lady.  By virtue of the Marian vow, they are in fact, called to the transforming union with the Virgin Mary, in the “transubstantiation in Her” as St. Maximilian M. Kolbe said and as reiterated in the homily by the founder, Fr Stefano M. Pio Manelli who received the vows as the delegate of the Apostolic Commissioner. In imitation of the sublime model of the Immaculate and of the saints such as St. Francis of Assisi and St. Maximilian Kolbe, our most beautiful prayer for the brothers who made the final profession of vows is an ever greater love to God and to others.
