During this Eastertide, the Church prepares us for the coming of the Holy Spirit. In his book, Divine Intimacy, Fr. Gabriel, OCD. tells us: “Only Jesus’ death could merit this great gift for us, and it was not until after His Ascension into heaven that the Holy Spirit, the Envoy of the Father and the Son, could descend upon the Church.” Fr. Homily #120503 ( 10min) Play – On the Feast of Sts. Philip and James Fr. Angelo preaches on the Apostolic succession of the bishops that constitutes the Apostolicity of the Church, one of the four marks of the Church to recognize the true Church. As any bishop lays hands on a new bishop they pass on what they have received from their successor and this goes back to the Apostles handing on what Jesus Himself gave to them and is the key to how Jesus fulfills His promise that the Holy Spirit will always be with His Church. This is a great assurance and source of Hope. Let us rejoice in it and give thanks to God.
