Ave Maria!

Today is AirMaria’s third anniversary of our official start on March 25^th, 2007. Thanks be to God. And thank you, our viewers and benefactors, for your continued spiritual and financial support. It is a great day on which to have our anniversary because it is the Annunciation when St. Gabriel told Mary that she is to be the Mother of God and by her acceptance the Word became Incarnate for the salvation of the world. The goal of AirMaria is also to announce this good news to the world, teaching them about Jesus by teaching about His blessed mother.

This year it is also special in that we are carrying a live video stream from Rome for the first time. It will cover the Vatican Forum sponsored by Inside the Vatican magazine which will be on the timeliness of proclaiming the Fifth Marian Dogma of Mary as Coredemtprix, Mediatrix and Advocate. This is very exciting since it is the most prominent discussion on the issue ever with Bishops and Cardinals in attendance. It will be broadcasted by H2O News.

It has been quite a while since we made a general update. In that time most of 2009 and a good part of 2010 has passed by. In fact, I wanted to make this a New Year’s update. I also wanted to keep my New Year’s resolution to stop procrastinating, but as you can see I definitely missed the boat. Well, there is always next year. (more…)

We are happy to announce that due to the generosity of our viewers we have raised enough money to buy the new computer for the homilies and it has been ordered. Deo Gratias!  This is not a moment too soon because we lost today’s homily due to the computer failing again. (Yes, we lost yesterday’s homily, as well, but that was due to operator error. Names are being withheld to protect the guilty!

This should serve Our Lord and Lady for years to come. May God reward our benefactors. Thanks again. Ave Maria!

Well we have not posted homilies from Griswold for the past two days because we had a major computer failure and it probably needs to be replaced. We will probably be able to scrounge an alternative method to get homilies up by tomorrow or so but it will only be  a temporary fix. The bottom line is that our computers are getting old and need updating. We are still looking at details but the replacement cost could be around $1000. Donations for this and the ongoing expenses would be greatly appreciated.

We are busily working out the bugs for doing live streaming on a more routine basis for events here at the friary and in the field. We hope to be doing daily broadcasts of the morning Mass. For this reason we have not given much advanced notice of our upcoming live broadcasts since we are still in the experimental stage.  This effort will require some purchasing of equipment so please be generous in this Lenten Season by pressing the donate button in the top of the right hand sidebar, Thank you.

We will be having a live broadcast tonight at 7pm Eastern for the Missa Cantata at our friary here in celebration of the Feast of The Annunciation, which the FIs are celebrating as a Solemnity.

Friday, March 27, Fr. Paul Check of Courage:

St. Patrick’s Church in Providence, RI. Link to map: Click Here. Fr. Paul N. Check, nationally known speaker and incoming Executive Director of Courage, International for Mass, followed by a discussion about: “Courage, the Cross, and Same Sex Attraction: What Does the Catholic Church Really Teach About Homosexuality?” Broadcast depends on internet availability at the site.

Saturday, March 28,  3-8pm, Prolife Youth Conferernce:

Prolife Youth Conference at the St. Micheal’s Gym at the Holy Family Academy in Baltic, CT. Many dynamic speakers  from the area covering a wide number of subjects on how to be a pro-life evangelist. Broadcast depends on internet availability at the event.

We will be broadcasting the Mass for the Solemnity of St Joseph on Thursday March 19 at 7pm Eastern from Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. It will be a Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form (Latin Tridentine). The choir will be the Northern Rhode Island Schola Cantorum Sanctae Ceciliae and here are some samples of their singing. Come join us!

Well, we’re going to do it. Yes, the Public Hearing has been canceled by the Democratically controlled Judiciary Committee. I guess they got scared. But, there will be an “informational” hearing (less official) held by the Republicans (to save the day) and also a Catholic rally at the Capitol Building itself starting at noon. The Bishops are encouraging everyone to attend. See Details. We will find out more about what this cancellation means when we get there tomorrow. We will be covering some preliminary events at the Legislative Office Building (LOB) at 11am then the rally at noon, then at 1:30 we will go back to the LOB to cover the hearing, from there we will see how our batteries hold up.

We will have a post on AirMaria in the morning that will have the live video embedded. If AirMaria gets too sluggish then you can go directly to our channel on Ustream.tv at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/airmaria-live although watch out for the adverts and such that we don’t have any control over.

Also, because of this event, we will not have a homily tomorrow.

Keep in mind we have not gotten a chance to go to the capitol to measure cellular and wireless strength so it will be hit or miss. 80% chance of rain, so bring your cyber umbrellas. Those going to the Capitol in person will definitely have a chance to do some Lenten penance in reparation for this political atrocity.

BTW – Whilst on the sound waves theme: AirMaria has applied for several Non-Commercial Educational FM broadcast licenses and we hope to be on the air very soon with our first radio station in the New Beford, MA, area (the website is under construction but you may have a peek). Hello friends! We wanted to take this Thanksgiving Day here in the US to thank everyone for your prayers, support and regular viewership of AirMaria. You are the AirMaria community, and we wanted to thank you for making AirMaria a success in spreading devotion to Our Lady.

Also today marks the 2nd anniversary of the first post on AirMaria back on Thanksgiving Day 2006 (a few months before the official start in March 2007, note the “FITVN” in the thumbnail below which was the first name we were intending to use before coming up with AirMaria.)

The video was Fr. Peter in the first of his series, the Golden Thread. It is an introduction to the theology of John Duns Scotus and interestingly talks about the 700th anniversary of his death that just took place at the beginning of this month. Also, the video file for this episode was lost for about a year and I just found a copy while doing the switch to the new server last week. Sooo …in the spirit of thanksgiving we present Fr. Peter’s Golden Thread, the lost episode. We plan on continuing his series with new episodes in the near future. (more…)
