Views 1457

Homily #150506n ( 05min) Play - The metaphor used by Our Lord in today's gospel is one that is rooted in the history and consciousness of the Jewish people. The image of the vineyard is one which was applied to the nation of Israel in the writings of the prophets, and now Jesus tells them that HE is the vine, and they have life, not if they observe the laws of the Old Covenant, but only if they are united to Him. We too are branches from this one vine, and in order to be fruitful, we need to prune out of our lives all that is not bearing fruit, let us trust the vinedresser, the Holy Spirit, and allow Him prune us, even when this is painful.
