Elias preaches on how we have forsaken not only charity but the more basic requirement of justice where we unjustly deprive the most innocent among us of the very right to life. Not only are falling short, then, of the Judeo-Christian ideal embodied in the Ten Commandments, but of the natural ideal of being just, civilized and humane.Ave Maria!

Correction: The ‘pro-life’ phrase “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” is commonly attributed to the Constitution, but it actually comes from the Declaration of Independence.
The 5th Amendment does offer protections to our “life, liberty, or property,” noting we cannot be deprived of any of them without due process of law.
