Fi News #124 – The community at Mt St Francis with Fr. Gabriele ( 02min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

On December 15th, Feast of Our Lady Queen of the Seraphic Order, six young men were clothed (or “invested”) in the habit of St. Francis at our friary in New York. The rough, cruciform tunic is an outward expression of the form of life they desire to follow: that of Jesus Christ, poor, humble and crucified. The color grey (unbeknownst to many) is the original color worn by the sons of St. Francis. The blue tint of the fabric expresses their desire to live as the possession and property of Our Lady, battling for the salvation of souls beneath her Blue Mantle.
The investiture in the “habit of probation” marks one of the first steps in their vocational journey. God willing, this journey will take them to novitiate, then to their first profession of vows, and finally to perpetual profession.
Please remember these young men in your prayers, that Our Lord and Lady may bring to completion the good work begun in their souls.

Ave Maria!

Fr. Gabriele’s homily from the Mass immediately preceding this video is available here.

Invitation to Sanctity

Ave Maria Meditations

“It grieves me, my God, that I should be so wicked and that I am able to do so little in Your service. I well know that it is my own fault that You have not granted me the favours which You gave to those who went before me…. I grieve over my life, Lord, when I compare it with theirs; and I cannot say this without weeping. When I meditate, my God, upon the glory which You have prepared for those who persevere in doing Your will, and when I think how many trials and pains it cost Your Son to gain it for us, and how little we have deserved it, and how bound we are not to be ungrateful for this wondrous love which has taught us love at such a cost to itself, my soul becomes greatly afflicted.

How is it possible, Lord, that (more…)

La Crosse WI: First Native American Will be Canonized

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

  (Above) La Crosse WI: Shrine to Bl Kateri Tekakwitha

VATICAN CITY, 20 DEC 2011 – The Holy Father, yesterday signed decrees acknowledging miracles attributed to the intervention of seven blesseds (three men and four women) who will shortly be canonised. One of the new saints is Kateri Tekakwitha, the first native North American to be raised to the glory of the altars. -Vatican Information Service

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha lived in a society where publicly and literally people ate other men, offered sacrifices to demons, and every human act was done in view of others, I mean EVERYTHING. In the mist of all this she remained a pure virgin, even before she was a Christian, but after baptism in the True Faith under the One True God, she rocketed into great holiness.A Friar With Great Devotion to her

Advent: We Wait, We Hope, We Trust

Ave Maria Meditations

Wait when the seed is planted,

Wait for the rain to fall;

Wait for the restless green sprout,

Wait while the plant grows tall.

Wait for the coming Savior,

Wait through the heart’s slow race;

Wait for the kingdom’s dawning,

Wait till we see his face! (more…)
