Spiritual gluttony is a very common imperfection in the spiritual life. Due to our damaged human nature we are easily inclined to pray with the intention to 'taste' Gods presence instead of pleasing Him. The silence, vastness and emptiness of the desert forces us to focus on God, and on God alone. It leads us to think about the Divine Heart Itself, instead of the gifts that flow forth from It.
