The Cornerstone #38 – Fr. Maximilian Dean: Primacy of Christ and Mary Magdalene (8min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
In this episode, Fr. continues his examination of the scene at Calvary and Mary’s role in our spiritual life. The process of “purification” is essential if we are to grow in our Christian life, and we see this process embodied in the person of St. Mary Magdalen. In the Gospels, Mary Magdalen is always depicted as being at the feet of Jesus. She lay at His feet when the Pharisees & scribes attempted to have her stoned; she washed His feet with costly perfume at the house of Simon the Pharisee; at Calvary, she knelt weeping at the foot of the cross; and after the resurrection, she is seen clinging to Christ whom she mistook as a gardener. It was at Calvary that Mary Magdalen was cleansed all the more of her sins by the blood of the Lamb and the tears of His Mother.
St. John Chrysostom said: “In the Magdalen, Christ found a harlot, but He made her purer than a virgin.” When we are purified, we become more and more holy and pleasing to God, and Father Maximilian discusses 2 aspects of this purification, as described by St. John of the Cross. These 2 aspects are known as “the dark night of the senses” and “the dark night of the soul”.
[Again, we apologize for the glitch at the end of the recording. We suggest that you just close your eyes and listen to Father's wonderful words. It's not worth missing!]

Ave Maria!
“Whoever has given himself entirely to the Immaculate??has a real sense of depending on Her in everything, of not belonging to himself anymore, but of having really become Her property, the property of the Immaculate, the Mother of God, the true and loving Queen of heaven and earth.” (SK #1333)

Ave Maria!
“Many associations have already spent much energy for the cause of the Mother of God, however, She has been raised up by God in such a way, that everything that will be done by those souls who love Her most, even until the end of the world, will never equal the glory of which She is worthy.” (SK #1333)

Ave Maria!
“My dearest children in the Immaculate, I hope that you will be nourished by Her with the milk of Her graces, be caressed by Her, be formed by Her just as She did with Jesus, our elder Brother, so that the divine Spouse of souls may recognize ever more in us those same things that He Himself received from the Immaculate, His Mother, those same little eyes, that same little heart.” (SK #461)

Ave Maria!
“Jesus gave us as mother and protectress His dearest and most beloved Mother, that creature who is holier than all of the Saints and Angels, to whom He is not capable of refusing anything, because She is the most worthy and the most loved of all mothers. Moreover, He gave Her a most compassionate heart, so that She cannot help but notice even the slightest tear on earth, so that She cannot help but be preoccupied with the salvation and sanctification of each person.” (SK #1094)

Ave Maria!
“Do you know how many people on earth still do not know God, do not know the Immaculate and, as a result, at times they even ask themselves the reason for their existence? They don’t know that the goal of man is God and that every reality in this world is just a means to arrive at God in eternity, in Heaven. They don’t know that the Mediatrix of all graces, the spiritual Mother of all men, is Mary Immaculate; that having recourse to Her, loving Her, they draw close to God in the easiest and most rapid way.” (SK #758)
