Fi News – Prayers to Bl. John Duns Scotus for Fr. Peter

By January 31, 2008January 3rd, 2009Fi News

Ave Maria!

Father Peter Damian Fehlner of the Franciscans of the Immaculate is a well known Mariologist appearing on EWTN and of course here at AirMaria.com. He has been an important proponent of devotion to Our Lady of America.

Father Peter has been suffering from many eye ailments for several years. He is about to undergo another eye surgery.

Because of Fr. Peter’s devotion to Bl. Duns Scotus, the Franciscans of the Immaculate are asking many to pray the following novena in honor of Bl. Duns Scotus for two intentions. The first intention is for the canonization of Duns Scotus and the second intention is that Fr. Peter’s sight would be healed. Of course, the two intentions are complementary in that the miraculous healing of Fr. Peter’s eyes with such a public prayer made specifically to the Blessed for the cure would provide the miracle needed for canonization.

(To make the following prayer a novena, it is suggested to repeat the triduum three times for a total of nine days.)

PRAYERS FOR THE CANONIZATION OF BLESSED DUNS SCOTUS

O Most High, Almighty and gracious Lord, Who exalts the humble and confounds the proud of heart, grant us the great joy of seeing Blessed John Duns Scotus canonized. He honored Your Son with the most sublime praises; he was the first to successfully defend the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary; he lived in heroic obedience to the Holy Father, to the Church and to the Seraphic Order. O most holy Father, God of infinite love, hear, we beseech You, our humble prayer, thorough the merits of Your Only-Begotten Son and of His Mother, Coredemptrix and Spouse of the Holy Spirit.

TRIDUUM TO IMPLORE GRACES FROM BL. JOHN

1st Day

O Blessed John, who in the brief span of your life, gave us the most amazing example of angelic innocence and of seraphic love for the Immaculate, have pity on me as, in virtue of your merits and through your intercession, I implore from Heaven the grace of which I am so much in need??

(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)

2nd Day

O worthy defender of the exalted Mother of God, who wished always to ascribe to Her what seemed to you most excellent, and who edified the world with the constant practice of the most beautiful virtues, deign from heave, where you enjoy the reward of your most holy life, to turn your merciful gaze toward me, who confides in you, and grant me the grace for which I humbly ask??

(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)

3rd Day

O my most loving protector, from heaven where you enjoy the fruits of your penitent and holy life, deign to make the divine favors rain down, wipe away our tears, console our hearts, lend your ear to my petitions, particularly for the intention which is so dear to my heart??Though my unworthiness is great and makes me miserable in the sight of God’s throne, your merits and the efficacy of your intercession will obtain for me the grace for which I long.

(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)

Blessed John Duns Scotus, Pray for us.

THANKSGIVING TO BL. JOHN DUNS SCOTUS FOR GRACES RECEIVED

Thank you, O my most benign protector; the love with which you assist those who have recourse to you is truly great. I am certain that the world will soon be filled with your wonders and that your name will be everywhere invoked and blessed by countless souls who experience the beneficent effects of your protection. To this chorus I, a poor sinner, wish to unite my voice to show you all my gratitude. Thank you, friend of the humble, thank you, true devotee of the Mother of God; impart a kiss for me on Her august mantle, so that, by your means, She will deign now and always to graciously guide me. Amen.

(3 Glory Be’s)

I will be happy to join in on this novena and will begin
tomorrow on the Feast of the Presentation and then leading up to the Anniverary of Lourdes which is most fitting. I will let other isolated members of the Order know as well.
