Ave Maria!
Today were remember a wonderful 10th-century hermit saint, St. Romuald:
St. Peter Damian, to whom we are indebted for a Life of St. Romuald, notes that the saint was enraptured by silence and enamoured of God: “Contemplation of God enraptured him so forcefully that, almost blinded by tears and burning with an indescribable fire of love for God, he would cry out, ‘Dear Jesus, peace of my heart, ineffable desire, sweetness and gentleness of the angels and saints…’”.
The son of Duke Sergius of Ravenna, immersed as he was in silence, discovered that this ability to be still before the Lord opens the heart and unites us with God, who speaks in silence and solitude.
The exerpt above is taken from a wonderful, one-page biography of the saint on EWTN’s website.

No Apologies #12 – Friar Joseph explaining that the Blessed Virgin Mary remained a virgin before, during, and after the Birth of Our Lord>>> Play |

Ave Maria!
We apologize for the delay in getting this episode of “No Apologies” on the air. The Airmaria production team was on a field trip last week to Steubenville, Ohio, and Bloomington, Indiana, and with limited internet access during this time, we were unable to post this episode.
Fra Joseph is also recovering from a bout of Lyme’s disease and is in St Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven for the next week, so we will be unable to post the next episode of “No Apologies” for another two weeks – one thing for sure, these episodes are worth waiting for and in this episode Fra Joseph again skillfully explains the Perpetual Virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary using Sacred Scripture, Church Tradition, and the writings of the Early Church Fathers.

Ave Maria!
Fr. Joachim instructs us in the words of St. Paul – “Now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation” – and illustrates the uncertainty of life with a story of an unwise friend of St. Thomas More. Don’t think you can put off conversion ’til the last minute!

Homilies #94 – Sunday Homily by Fr. Joachim Mudd (13min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
Our love for God is measured by how fully we embrace His forgiveness. The sinful woman in today’s gospel embraced forgiveness with the gratitude of balm and tears; the righteous Pharisee embraced it with the gratitude of contempt. I am not the judge of my neighbor, but I must be the judge of ourself, and I ought to gauge my love for God by measuring my gratitude toward Him and my generosity toward my neighbor. (As a famous journalist once noted, “The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people.”)
In his frank homily, Fr. Joachim points to the sad reality of many who claim to love Christ yet selectively neglect or scoff at the commandments of His Church. Father also aims squarely at the present-day contraceptive-mentality, a mentality which demonstrates a lack of faith in God’s providence, a lack of hope for the future, and a sorrowful lack of love.

Fr. Joachim instructs us on the history of devotion to the Sacred Heart from St. Gertrude the Great (1256-1302) to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690), and, for the skeptics, he points them to the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano.

The Cornerstone #12 – God’s intention is that we be “conformed to the image of His Son” Rm. 8:29 >>> Play |
|
|
|
Ave Maria!
Returning to St. Paul, Fr. Maximilian Mary begins to look at God’s eternal purpose as revealed in Romans 8:29. In this episode he establishes that God’s eternal designs were that we be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ so that He might be “the firstborn of many brethren”. Yet another scriptural confirmation of Bl. John Duns Scotus and the Franciscan thesis on the Incarnation.

Homilies #92 – Thursday Homily by Fr. Bonaventure, F.I. (10min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
“Do not be deceived by the leaven of the scribes and Pharisees.”
In today’s gospel, Our Lord reminds us that, unlike the scribes and Pharisees, we must know and live out the truths of our faith. We are responsible before God (and man, else why would we have laws) for our sins, and this reality flies in the face of popular notions of “collective guilt” or “collective sins”. All sin is particular, not collective, and so Christ is interested in your specific offences. That’s why we have the sacrament of confession! Fr. Bonaventure points out that this was the error of the Pharisees, who assumed that they were (collectively) children of Abraham, and therefore would be saved in spite of the filth piled up in their souls. It was not the case with them, and it won’t be the case with us. We won’t be saved by claiming to be Catholic; we will be saved if we keep Christ’s commandments, and only if we keep them – all of them.
Listen now to this wonderful instruction by Fr. Bonaventure.

Homilies #91 – Feast of Corpus Christi Homily (28min) >>> Play |
|
| |
|
Ave Maria!
On the Feast of Corpus Christi, we celebrate the Mystery of mysteries: the changing of bread and wine into the true body and blood of Christ Jesus.
Still today, many people outside of and even inside the Church do not appreciate the spiritual and physical miracle of the Eucharist. The summit of our Faith is the Eucharist, and faith is greatest at the moment of transubstantiation, when the whole substance of bread and wine is truly, physically changed into the Body and Blood of Christ. We do not compromise on or apologize for this teaching, for it’s origin is the Word of God Himself, Jesus Christ. The children of God,the body of Christ, participate and assist in the saving mission of the Son of God through reception of the Eucharist, as did Our Mother, Mary Coredemptrix, before us. Through Him and in Him, with the help of Our Lady, we become lights of the world, little co-redeemers who share in the life and the mission of God.
Let us now listen to this wonderful homily given by Fr. Bonaventure on this holy feast.

Ave Maria!
Fra Solanus Mary reviews our great little book authored by the founder of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, Fr. Stefano Maria Manelli. This book is particularly good for teenagers as it is an easy read and of course, it is about one of the most popular saints of modern times – St. Pio of Pietrelcina. This is another great episode of Book Log and I’m sure you’ll not only enjoy the show, but I hope you enjoy the book even more.

The Cornerstone #11 – God’s eternal plan has an ordered priority >>> Play |
|
|
|
Ave Maria!
One of the chief objections of the Thomists to the Franciscan thesis is that “God is outside of time and foresaw sin”. Watch this episode as Fr. Maximilian Mary shows how both St. Thomas Aquinas and Bl. John Duns Scotus agree that God is outside of time and therefore foresaw sin before creating. However, where they differ is in reference to what God’s priorities were in creating the universe. For Scotus, the primacy in the divine, eternal plan is with Christ–the Incarnation has the first priority (sin or no sin); then God predestines men and angels to grace and glory in Christ; then foreseeing man’s sin He wills Christ to remedy man’s woe through the Redemption [all of this prioritizing is outside of time-before creating]. For Aquinas, the divine plan begins with angels and men; then He foresees man’s fall; then He wills the Incarnation primarily as a remedy for sin [all of this is outside of time as well]. Both Scotus and Aquinas indicate a priority in God’s plan which is outside of time, before the creation of the universe.

Ave Maria!
No matter how many gifts God has blessed us with, it is necessary that we offer them and all their fruits back to Him. Such was the principle of living that justified the widow over and above the well-instructed scribes in today’s gospel. Please listen to Fr. Bonaventure’s wonderful little homily for his insights on today’s readings.

Homilies #89 – Wednesday Homily (6min) >>> Play |

Ave Maria!
We have many tears to shed before Judgment and Resurrection, and we glimpse some of those tears in today’s readings, first in reading the story of Tobit and Sarah, and then in listening to the hard hearts of the Sadducees. As Fr. Hardon observed, most people who cause us pain do so simply by being themselves.
So what are we to make of all this pain and suffering? Where, or more rightly, to whom shall we turn? Listen now as Fr. Angelo reviews the theme of today’s readings and how they call us to once and for all renounce our worthless self-reliance and acknowledge our utter dependence on the living God.
